The hosted side of Karshipta
Karshipta started as an open-source console and gateway for flying and tracking unmanned fleets: AGPL-3.0, self-hosted, free. karshipta.com is a different thing built on top of it - an enterprise product, operated by NIKX Technologies B.V., for teams who want the same console without running the relay, the database, or the accounts system themselves.
Open source vs. hosted
The console and gateway you see here are the same software anyone can clone and run for free. What you're paying for on karshipta.com, if anything, is what a single operator flying on their own infrastructure doesn't need: a managed relay so a gateway on your own network is reachable without you exposing anything yourself, accounts and org-scale fleet management, a public map that gives every fleet visibility from day one, and billing that doesn't involve you running a server. The company
Karshipta is built and operated by NIKX Technologies B.V., based in Amsterdam.
Why Karshipta exists
Fleet command and control software for drones and unmanned vehicles has historically meant either a heavyweight desktop tool per operator, or a closed platform that locks your wire protocol and your data in. Karshipta's console speaks the same MAVLink your PX4 or ArduPilot ward already speaks, and Herald, its open tracking standard, extends that to anything else that reports position and status: livestock tags, GPS trackers, cellular sensors. The protocol and the console are open. What NIKX sells is not having to host it yourself.
